First-Time Nerves? The Ultimate Newbie’s Guide to Finding Your Soul Tribe
Share
Booking a ticket to a wellness event can bring up a whole flurry of first-time nerves. You might be wondering if it’s okay to come on your own, if you’re “spiritual enough,” or if everyone else already knows exactly what they’re doing. Honest answer? Most people are just finding their feet.
So if you’re new to Awakened Spirit events, take this as a little coffee chat and a warm hug in blog form. I’m Hayley, and I’m here to tell you that you do not need to arrive as the finished article. You just need to show up.
Coming Along Solo? You’ll Be in Good Company
Loads of people come on their own. In fact, it’s one of the easiest ways to connect.
- See the upside: Coming solo can actually make it easier to connect. You’re free to wander, chat, and follow what feels right.
- Expect a friendly welcome: Community is a huge part of what we do. The atmosphere is relaxed, open, and very much “come sit with us.”
- Make the first small move: Head to the central hub or join a community circle. Chances are, other people are hoping to make new connections too.
- Trust the space: Awakened Spirit events are built to feel safe, supportive, and easy to settle into. You can get a feel for it in our festival experience.

Worried You’re “Not Spiritual Enough”? Please Don’t
This one comes up all the time, and let me save you the overthinking: there is no entry exam. No secret handshake. No need to have mastered meditation on a mountain top.
- Forget the stereotypes: You do not need a vegan diet, crystals in every pocket, or years of experience.
- Come as you are: Whether you’re deep into personal growth or just a bit curious, there’s space for you here.
- Try what calls to you: Our workshops include everything from personal growth workshops to healing workshops.
- Keep it personal: Spiritual growth and personal development are not a competition. There’s no gold star for looking the most serene.

What to Pack So You Feel Sorted
A little prep goes a long way. Here’s the practical bit, minus the fuss.
Clothes and Essentials
- Weather-Appropriate Layers: UK weather likes to keep us guessing. Although it is usually very hot that weekend, pack for sunshine, showers, and chilly evenings.
- Activewear: Handy for mindfulness events and movement-based sessions.
- Reusable Water Bottle: Keep sipping. Holistic festivals are much nicer when you’re hydrated.
Comfort Bits
- Journal and Pen: Ideal for jotting down thoughts, breakthroughs, or that one line from a workshop you want to remember.
- Meditation Cushion or Yoga Mat: Optional, but useful for seated talks and workshops.
Phone and Practical Stuff
- Digital Detox Mode: Signal is usually good but be prepared in case.
- Power Bank: Helpful if you want your phone alive by the end of the day.

A Few Wobbles You Might Have
Totally normal. Here’s the gentle version of what to do.
"What if I feel overwhelmed?"
- Take a breather: Find a quiet spot and give yourself a minute.
- Ground yourself: A few slow breaths can work wonders.
- Ask for support: Speak to a volunteer or staff member. We’re here to help.
"I don't know which workshop to choose."
- Check the schedule: Have a look when you arrive and see what jumps out.
- Follow your gut: You don’t need a perfect strategy.
- Try different things: Wellness festivals are a brilliant place to explore what feels like your kind of magic.

A Few Simple Ways to Feel More Ready
You don’t need to arrive glowing with enlightenment. Just give yourself the best chance to enjoy it.
- Set Intentions: Think about what you’d love to get from the experience.
- Hydrate Early: Start drinking a bit more water before the event.
- Rest: Come with as much energy as you can. It makes everything feel easier.
